This was printed in the Ford Flyer-the Ford Middle School Newsletter-May/June issue.
Congrats to our Juniors!

And, we have Tristan Anderson (6th grade) and Julianna Brunnet (7th grade) to thank for a recent donation of pencils from The American Legion Junior Auxiliary Unit 610 of Brook Park. As part of a requirement for the Junior Patch Program, Julianna and Tristan chose our school to receive this donation! Tristan is Honorary Vice-President of Unit 610 and Honorary President of District 13. Julianna is Honorary President of Unit 610 and Honorary Chaplain of District 13. The girls were elected to their positions and are looking forward to helping out the community as well as the veterans in various activities throughout the year.

The Junior Auxiliary of Brook Park Unit 610 is participating in the Adopt-a-Platoon program and is asking for your help. There are 58 Soldiers, including 10 females, in the US Army Platoon we have adopted and they are deployed to Iraq until December 1, 2009
Here is a little bit about the Platoon: They take care of Food Inspection (safety and security) as well as military working dogs and force protection animals. They are broken up into squads and are sent all over Iraq as teams inspecting food handling as well as the care and well being of the working animals.
The Juniors are asking for donations for a care packages to be sent. They would like to send a package every other month starting in June.
They would appreciate:
Support mail-just sending them a note letting them know you are thinking about them rally means a lot.
Snacks: beef jerky, protein/granola bars, trail mix, dried fruit, sunflower seeds, gum, hard candy, powdered drink mix singles.  They do have a vegetarian and non beef and pork eater.  Toiletries/hygiene for both male and female: shaving cream (non-aerosol), bar/liquid soaps (moisturizing), shampoo, conditioner, deodorant/antiperspirant, eye drops, body lotion, foot powders and other foot care, baby wipes, hand sanitizer wipes, white athletic ankle socks w/no logos, plastic clothes hangers, neck pillows w/extra pillowcases, (non-aerosol) insect repellent w/Deet, sunscreen w/high SPF, lip balm w/SPF, Cortisone Cream (anti itch cream), fly traps, medicated body powder (for heat rash).
