Ralph Tharpe Ceremony

On Sat November 8th, the American Legion Riders completed  their goal:  With over $9500 raised, we purchased a van for one of our own:  Ralph Tharpe, the District 13 POW/MIA Chairman, a disabled Army Vet.  Besides his own issues, 3 of his 5 children have Muscular Dystrophy.

The family has never been able to travel together.  They used 2 vehicles, but not any longer.  The vehicle that was purchased was equipped to accommodate the entire family.

The presentation, below, was a moving experience.  Not only was Ralph and his wife grateful, but one of his sons said, they now actually have a life and are no longer bound in their home.

Members of the Post told me that the joy shown on the children's faces made them choke up.

All of this emotion has to make us stop and think about all the things that are taken for granted in life.  As we enter this Holiday season let us first of all thank all of the American Legion Family, individuals, and private businesses that made this event possible. Thanks go to all of the  excellent ALR officers who helped with this achievement. A special thanks goes to Post 610 for ALL of the support we have received and the opportunity of serving our Post.
